But at just 7 years old, Affiong Sunday was left to fend for herself, beginning a three-year period in which she had to navigate life without the care and protection a child should have been able to depend on.

The story eventually reached Lucky Udu, whose intervention brought Affiong's situation to the attention of a much wider audience.
